Contenido :	La nueva variedad tropical INIA Olimar se ha destacado a nivel experimental por su elevado potencial de rendimiento, estabilidad, precocidad y muy baja incidencia de granos yesados. En la Zafra pasada se sembró por primera vez un área significativa de esta variedad, constituida fundamentalmente por semilleros, alcanzando aproximadamente 3.000 hás. La disponibilidad de semilla producida permitiría un crecimiento importante de INIA Olimar, en caso de que el sector decida su adopción, por lo que es oportuno revisar sus características y el comportamiento en cultivos en la zafra 2003/04, la cual tuvo características climáticas particulares que permitieron que el país alcanzara un nuevo record de rendimiento.
